Mud volcanoes in Taiwan
Between Jan. 18th and Jan. 24th 2015 we enjoyed the hospitality of Prof. Yang and his research group at the Department of Geosciences of the National Taiwan University. During a three-day fieldwork in the southern part of Taiwan with Prof. Sano we could collect gas samples from mud volcanoes and other gas-emitting spots.
For more impressions see the Expeditions/Fieldwork page.

A few sediment samples from the Nankai Trough have been analyzed to determine the He concentrations and the 3He/4He isotope ratios in the mineral phase. The CO(2) produced by heating the samples in a Ta furnace (i.e., the gas extraction step at up to 1800°C) was analyzed for its δ13C isotope signature.
